Former NFL player David Meggett was sentenced to 30 years in prison Wednesday after he was convicted in a South Carolina court on charges of criminal sexual conduct and burglary.
According to authorities, Meggett was convicted in a case involving an encounter with a college student at her house in North Charleston in January 2009. Meggett attended high school in North Charleston.
Meggett and his attorney plan to appeal the ruling.
Meggett is no stranger to trouble since he left the NFL. In 1998, Meggett was accused of assaulting an escort worker which ended in a hung jury in April 2000. In 2006 he left his position as parks and recreation director in Robersonville, N.C. when he was accused of sexually assaulting his former girlfriend. And in 2007, he was convicted of sexual battery. Meggett received two years probation.
