A new report from the Center for Disease Control has revealed that nearly 20,000 Virginians have HIV.

Richmond was found to have the second highest rate of HIV in Virginia and the scary thing is thousands of Richmonders may not even know they have the disease!

Kathy Benham, the director of client support and mental health services at the Fan Free Clinic,was asked why the rate is so high in Richmond:

“It moved into the African American community and I think that made it much harder for people to comfortably access testing and services. There’s a pretty intense stigma in the African American community.”
