The numbers are in! Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV sold 964,000 in its first week according to Nielsen SoundScan, debuting in the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart.
Despite leaking before it’s official release date, Tha Carter IV earned the biggest sales week for a hip-hop album (or any set by a male artist), since Weezy’s 2008 Tha Carter III.
According to Weezy’s label, Tha Carter IV sold more than 300,000 downloads on iTunes in its first four days of release last week, beating out the first-week sales record recently set by Jay-Z and Kanye West’s Watch the Throne. [source]
