Mary J. Blige and Burger King received a lot of flack from the black community after a commercial of Mary singing the ingredients to Burger King’s chicken wrap went viral.
Burger King pulled the ad with no explanation at first. Then they said it was pulled due to a “music-licensing issue.” Now Mary is saying the ad was pulled because the spot wasn’t complete.
In a statement obtained by Advertising Age, Blige says, “I agreed to be a part of a fun and creative campaign that was supposed to feature a dream sequence. Unfortunately, that’s not what was happening in that clip, so I understand my fans being upset by what they saw. But, if you’re a Mary fan, you have to know I would never allow an unfinished spot like the one you saw to go out.”
Burger King is singing the same tune now explaining that they are in the “process of re-editing the spot” to include the dream sequence. *side-eye*
It will be interesting to see how they spin the new commercial…
