Do we have a new “father of the yr” candidate? I don’t think so!
A six-year old’s show and tell presentation has led to a father’s arrest on felony drug charges, after more than 80 grams of marijuana, blunts and a scale were pulled from the child’s backpack, according to a Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office arrest affidavit.
Larry Cornelius Stephens, 25, of St Petersburg, Florida, is accused of placing the drugs in his child’s backpack before dropping the child off at Campbell Park Elementary School on Tuesday morning.
Once discovering the bag’s contents, the child who was described as beaming by the teacher, presented it saying, “Look what I got!”. The teacher immediately called police.
Realizing his mistake, Stephens returned to the school minutes later telling someone he needed the marijuana back to “take care of his business and take care of his family,” according to police.
Unsuccessful, Stephens turned himself into police that afternoon on charges of child abuse and possession of marijuana with intent to sell. The child is currently in the mother’s care.
Stephens arrest is 72 days after his release from prison on charges of cocaine possession and sale in 2010. He has also faced previous charges of domestic battery and carrying a concealed weapon. by Tuesday night he had been released on 15,000 bond.
Here we go! Some of his family members are calling the whole thing a big misunderstanding. Did I miss something here? What was misunderstood exactly? Stephens admitted to the police that is was his, yet he still has relatives who are staying by his side.
“He’s innocent, man. A simple mistake, man. He gave someone a ride last night and that was it, man. That was it. The book bag was left in the car, he gave somebody a ride and that was it” says a man identified himself as Stephens’ cousin.
*sighs*
