“Jimmy Henchman. . .
[You] set me up, wet me up… stuck me up.
But you never shut me up.”
–Tupac “Against All Odds
Tupac told us who was behind him getting shot 5 times in Quad Studios back in ’94. Now, 18 years later, the man who orchestrated the whole thing confesses.
In an attempt to receive a reduced sentence after being charged for being the ring leader of a drug operation, James “Jimmy Henchman” Rosemond revealed he was the person behind the shooting of Tupac Shakur in 1994.
Rosemond secretly admitted to involvement in Tupac’s ambush during one of nine “Queen For A Day” proffer sessions with the government last autumn, court transcripts show. (In such sessions, suspects under investigation choose to enter an agreement with the government to confess knowledge of certain crimes with the agreement that the information won’t be used to prosecute them.) His confession unfolded as he was trying to carve out a cooperation deal that might lead to a reduced sentence, according to federal prosecutors.
During the opening arguments of Rosemond’s trial, his lawyer denied that the defendant had anything to do with Tupac’s ambush and berated a March 17, 2008 Los Angeles Timesarticle that blamed him for the assault, blasting the article as “utterly false.”
But within moments, prosecutors complained to the judge about the veracity of the defense counsel’s accusations.
“If [Rosemond's attorney] is going to argue that this was a fabricated article, it’s the government’s position that we can put in the defendant’s own admission about that particular shooting,” the prosecutor said. “In saying it is not true, when in fact it is true, the government should be able to rebut that argument that he’s making, [and introduce] that the defendant actually admitted to this 1994 shooting.”
Last year, Dextar Issac, revealed to AllHipHop that Jimmy Henchman paid him $2,500 to rob Tupac in Quad Studios. But Henchman has always denied having any involvement in the ’94 Tupac shooting.
In 2008, the LA Times published an article which named Henchman with being involved in the shooting. Henchman fired back saying he had absolutely no involvement and had planned to take legal action against the newspaper.
In his issued statement he said:
“In the past 14 years, I have not even been questioned by law enforcement with regard to the assault of Tupac Shakur, let alone brought up on charges,” Rosemond said in a statement. “Chuck Phillips, the writer who in the past has falsely claimed that the Notorious Biggie Smalls was in Las Vegas when Tupac was murdered and that Biggie supplied the gun that killed Tupac — only to be proven wrong as Biggie was in New Jersey recuperating from a car accident, has reached a new low by employing fourth-hand information from desperate jailhouse informants along with ancient FBI reports to create this fabrication.”
“I simply ask for all rap fans and fans of Tupac to analyze this fiction for what it is along with Phillips’ motives behind it,” Rosemond said. “I am baffled as to why the LA Times would print this on its website when a simple and fair investigation would reveal that the allegations are false. I am currently consulting with my attorneys about my legal rights regarding this libelous piece of garbage.”
All lies.
No one will be charged for attack Tupac that night because the NYPD classified the attack as a robbery. The statute of limitations in New York on robbery is seven years. This all would have had to come to light 11 years ago.
As Henchman waits to be sentenced for his convictions, he was charged with murder on June 5th after he was indicted for conspiring with five other men to kill 50 Cent associate Lowell Fletcher in 2009. As the saying goes, what’s done in the dark will come to the light.
At least the long-awaited answer of who really shot Tupac that night (which many would say started the East Coast/West Coast beef) has finally been answered.
