Disturbing news is coming out and rage is growing in the city of Maywood, Illinois, involving the case of a police officer using deadly force against an emotional father after his daughter was ran over.

An off-duty Chicago police officer shot and killed a man late Saturday night (August 11th) after a deadly confrontation ensued when the cop struck the man’s daughter with his motorcycle.

The father identified as 26 year-old Christopher Middleton was in a nearby restaurant with his fiancee,  when the young child, 4 year-old Taniyah Middleton was crossing the street with her older cousin, 18 year-old John Passley when the officer approached on his motorcycle.

The unidentified officer was headed home when the girl dashed out in front of him. In effort to avoid striking her directly, he immediately jumped off of his motorcycle to place it on its side but it continued to skid and flip, eventually striking her, as well as her cousin.

When the officer tried to help the girl out, her father came out of the restaurant and approached the officer angrily.

The officer allegedly told Middleton that he was a police officer, but claims that he was struck in the face, knocked to the ground and was continuously hit while on the ground by Middleton and Passley. The officer then drew his gun and shot once, striking him in the groin. Middleton was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. Young Taniyah suffered contusions and abrasions, hospitalized for observation.

His family of course disputes the details that the officer has given in claiming self defense and believes that the officer acted irrationally without identifying himself. A spokesperson for the officer believes that if Middleton would have just listened and understood what the officer was saying, he would be alive.

Middleton was scheduled to be married on today (August 18th) but instead of making last minute wedding arrangements, his family was forced to make funeral arrangements for his unexpected death.

Middleton leaves behind his fiancee Tanya Jones, a 6 year-old son, Taniyah and an unborn child. Meanwhile Passley faces charges of aggravated assault on a police officer.

The incident is under investigation.
